Sagrantino di Montefalco Terre de la Custodia 300x201 - Montefalco is a must

Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria, has attracted the taste buds of wine lovers around the world for many years. But, it is not only it’s wine that draws in the crowds, it is also a haven of well known restaurants and delicious olive oil.

Wine wise, a day trip to Umbria is a must and Montefalco is definitely on the trail of deliciousness.

Sagrantino di Montefalco is grown primarily in the village of Montefalco and its surrounding areas, with only 250 acres (100 ha) dedicated to the grape in the hands of about 25 producers.

With such small production, the wine is not widely known outside of Italy, but it was granted DOCG status in 1991 and this delicious wine is a well kept local secret. The grape is one of the most tannic varieties in the world, and creates wines that are inky purple with an almost-black center. The bouquet is one of dark, brooding red fruits with hints of plum, cinnamon, and earth. The Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG requires 100 percent Sagrantino used, with a required at least 29 months aging before release. A passito is still made, a thick, syrupy wine with raisin and blueberry qualities.

Why not make a day of it, by joining us for an amazing day out in Montefalco and enjoy the award-winning wines.
