Italian Queen Margherita of Savoy, from 1878-1900, decided to make a state visit to Naples in 1889, with her husband, King Umberto I.

Italians being so welcoming, Neapolitan pizza maker Raffaele Esposito created the Pizza Margherita, with the three colours of the Italian flag. Red, white and green. Basil, mozzarella and tomatoes. And, lets face it, it is the best pizza.
